Western Region Ghana beaches

Western Region Ghana: The Western Region of Ghana covers nearly 10% of the country and has the longest stretch along the coastline. The region is bordered by the Ashanti Region and The Brong-Ahafo Region in the north, the east by the Central Region and West by Ivory Coast.

Sekondi and Takoradi are in fact two separate cities, most of the mistaken for one city. Takoradi is the administrative capital of the Region. The Western Region of Ghana has a huge collection of castle and forts along its coasts such as Fort St Antonio at Axim, Fort Orange at Sekondi which is now a lighthouse, Fort Friederichsburg at Prince’s town, Fort Batenstein at Butre and many more. All those castles and fort were built by Dutch, German, Portuguese merchants.

The best protected rain forests can be found in the region, The Ankasa National Park a few km away from Elubo a town near the Ivory Coast is diverse rainforest. Its home to various animals such as elephants, antelopes, chimpanzee and many more.

The Region has also various secluded beaches such as Ankobra, Axim, Butre.

The Ankasa National Park

The Ankasa National Park is a huge area of land in Ghana that has been preserved and maintained by the Forestry Commission. With over 100 different species of trees, this park is truly one of a kind with its biodiversity. It’s so important to preserve these areas for future generations because it gives them something beautiful to enjoy and learn from.

There are various place of interests such as:

Egyambra Crocodile Pond

This is one of Ghana’s sacred crocodile pond.  Egyambra is a town in the Western Region of Ghana where you can find crocodiles, but what makes it unique are that people worship them. Visit their croc pond to see how at first with pour libations for the god and then after they will take offerings from those who come seeking prayer or advice.. This is a great experience which is highly recommended.

Nzulzu village of stillt


The ancient stilts village is located approximately an hour rowboat for Beyin. It’s a very interresting place where everyday life takes place in the centre of Lake Tandane. According to local history, it was founded some years ago by villagers seeking refuge from slave traiders who would otherwise capture and sell them into slavery

Kwame Nkrumah’s Birth Place 

Nkroful is the birth place of Ghana’s first President Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah. A memorial has been placed at the site of his birth and original burial places, although his remains were transfered to a mausoleum in Accra. You can take a guided tour that will show you around and offer narration for early life events, achievements, – everything about this significant man who helped found modern-day Ghana as we know it now!
